Be it remembered that I Rebekah Beeson of the Borough of Wilmington
and County of Newcastle in the State of Delaware, Widow, being sick
and weak in body but of sound and disposing mind and memory, Blessed
be God in his Mercies, and calling to mind the uncertainty of this
life, and being desirious to settle my Temporal Estate have thought
proper to make and publish this my last Will and Testament in manner
as herein after is mentioned, that is to say, First of all it is my
mind and Will that all my just Debts and Funeral expenses be paid out
of my Estate within a reasonable time after my decease by my Executor
herein after named.

Item I give and bequeath to my daughter Parthena the wife of John
Vandever Senior the sum of Twenty Cents lawful money of the United
States-

Item I give and bequeath to my Daughter Alice the wife of John
Vandever Junior the sum of Twenty Cents like money aforesaid,-

Item I five and bequeath unto my son Thomas Beeson the sum of Twenty
Cents like money aforesaid,-

Item I give and bequeath to my Son Jonathan Beeson all that his
obligation to me Dated the eighteenth day of April one thousand seven
hundred and eighty six, for twenty five pounds, ten Shillings
Principal and all the Interest that has accrued or shall accrue on the
same,-

Item I give and bequeath to my Son in law John Elliott all his
obligation to me for Sixty five Pounds Principal and all the monies
due and to become due thereon, I also give and bequeath to my said son
in law John Elliott and his wife Rebekah, my daughter, all my
household goods and kitchen furniture of every kind and nature
whatsoever.

Item All the rest and residue of my Estate Real, personal, or mixed,
in money, rights or credits or of what kind or nature soever, that is
not herein before otherwise disposed of, I give and bequeath the same
to the six sons of my aforesaid son in law John Elliott and his wife
my said Daughter Rebekah to be equally divided amongst their said six
sons, namely, William Elliott, Thomas Elliott, John Elliott, Lewis
Elliott, Edward Elliott, and James Elliott share and share alike and
to be put to Interest for them on good security within one year after
my deceaseand paid to them with all the Interest accrued thereon when
they shall respectively arrive at the age of Twenty one years by their
Guardian herein after appointed, And my mind and will further is that
if either or any of the said six sons of my Daughter Rebekah shall
happen to die under age and without lawful issue, that then and in
such case the share or Shares of those so dying shall go to the
survivors or survivor of them share and share alike-

And I do hereby nominate, constitute and appoint my aforesaid Son in
law John Elliott, whole and sole Executor of this my last Will and
Testament, I also appoint him Guardian of the persons of his aforesaid
six sons, and of the Estates which I have bequeathed to them-

And I do hereby Revoke, annul and make void all and every other will,
and wills by me at any time heretofore made and declare this and no
other to be my last Will and Testament, In Witness whereof I Rebekah
Beeson the Testatrix have hereunto set my hand and Seal this first day
of November in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and
Thirteen.

pronounced and Declared by the said Rebekah Beeson the Testatrix as
and for her last Will and Testament, in the presence of us who
subscribed our names hereunto as evidences at her request, in her
presence and in the presence of each other.

CHAMBERS, JOHN, son of William, born Dec. 28, 1662, died 10, 7, 1730, married (for first wife, it is presumed) Elizabeth Austwick, baptized May 24, 1658, daughter of Philip Austwick.

John Chambers, "of Acaster (?) Selby, in the county of the city of York," yeoman, and Deborah Dobson, daughter of Richard Dobson, deceased, of Tollerton, in the county of York, were married April 13, 1699.

John Chambers and family brought a certificate from Friends of York, England, dated 1, 6, 1712–3, which was presented in Philadelphia, after which they went over into New Jersey for a time. In 1715 they settled on White Clay Creek, in the edge of New Castle County, on a farm known then and since as the "Hopyard." Deborah Chambers died 4, 24, 1731.

The children of John Chambers were as follows: 1. John, b. April 20, 1690; d. 2, 2, 1717. 2. William, b. March 17, 1692; d. 3, 30, 1761. 3. Richard, b. June 20, 1700. 4. Joseph, b. Feb. 5, 1704. 5. Mary, b. Jan. 7 (?), 1707; m. Samuel Jackson, of Marlborough.

William Chambers married, 8, 22, 1729, Elizabeth, daughter of John and Mary Miller, of New Garden; she was born 1704, and died 2, 18, 1783. They lived in White Clay Creek hundred, and had the following children: 6. William, b. 6, 8, 1731; d. 8, 11, 1735. 7. Mary, b. 11, 27, 1732; m. James Wollaston and Robert Johnson. 8. Deborah, b. 9, 6, 1734; d. 3, 12, 1760. 9. Joseph, b. 4, 25, 1736; d. 6, 5, 1742. 10. William, twin with Joseph, d. 9, 27, 1760. 11. John, b. 1, 4, 1738. 12. Elizabeth, b. 11, 4, 1740; d. 5, 27, 1742. 13. Hannah, b. 8, 14, 1741; d. 6, 7, 1742. 14. Elizabeth, b. 5, 14, 1743; m. Daniel Thompson. 15. Joseph, b. 1, 23, 1745.

Richard Chambers (3) married, 4, 19, 1729, Elinor, sister of William’s wife, and had children,— 16. John, b. 1, 26, 1730. 17. Mary, b. 7, 13, 1731. 18. Martha, b. 10th mo., 1736. 19. Sarah, b. 11, 20, 1740. 20. Samuel, b. 1, 8, 1742. 21. Hannah, b. 2, 6, 1744. 22. Benjamin. 23. Joshua.

John Chambers (11) married, 12, 15, 1762, Rebecca, daughter of Joshua Johnson, of Londongrove, and probably settled in that township. Their children were William, Joshua, Elizabeth, Caleb, Mary, Sarah, David, and Phebe. William married Susanna Pusey, 11, 17, 1790, and was the father of John P. Chambers, whose sons, Edwin (deceased) and Cyrus, are well known as inventors and machinists.

Joseph Chambers (15) married, 5, 21, 1767, Amy, daughter of James Thompson, and had a son Joseph, who married, 11, 16, 1809, Deborah Phillips, and resided in New Garden. His children were Lydia, Amy, Mary Ann, Mahlon, Joseph P., Deborah, and Sarah.

John Chambers (16) married Sarah, daughter of David and Rachel (Harris) Black, and had children,— Joshua, Newton, Isaac, Elinor, Richard, b. 8, 16, 1775, d. 8, 17, 1863; Deborah, John, and David. Richard’s children were Sarah, Margaret, John W., Caroline, David M., Elizabeth, and Richard.

In the name of God and on this twenty-second day of April in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and thirty-eight, I John Gregg of the County of New Castle on Delaware and Christiana Hundred, a yeoman being of perfect mind and memory thanks to God and calling to mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed once for all men, today Do make and ordain this my Last will and testament that is to say principally and first of all I Give and Recommend my Soul unto God that loves it and for my body I recommend it to the earth to be buried in a Christian manner at the discretion of my executor, not doubting but at the General Resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God and as touching such worldly estate which it hath pleased God to bless me with. In this life I give and devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form:

In promise I give and bequeath to Elizabeth, my Dearly Beloved wife, the sum of ten pounds of Good and Lawful money to be Raised and Levied out of my Estate; besides the third part of the produce of the plantation I now Dwell on; with the privilege of the new Rooms at the East end of the house and the third part of the cellar under the same During her widowhood; together with the third part of my moveable Estate as the law directs.

Item: I have made over unto William my Eldest Son's home I make one of my estates a tract of Land containing two hundred acres Laying and being on Red Clay Creek, it being in the County of New Castle, which is his part.

Item: I give and have made over unto my son Thomas two hundred acres of Land laying and being on Red Clay Creek in the County of Chester, which is his part.

Item: I give and bequeath unto my son Joseph two hundred acres of Land also lying and being on Red Clay Creek in the County of Chester to be possessed and enjoyed by him, his heirs and assigns forever, it being his part.

Item: I give and bequeath unto my son Samuel, who I make the other of my executors, all the tract of Land I now live on being and containing seven hundred acres or there abouts with the improvements thereunto belonging by him to be possessed and enjoyed by him, his heirs and assigns forever, it being his part.

Item: I give and bequeath to my two Daughters Hannah and Rebecah, in the first place, twenty-nine pounds of Good and Lawful money to each of them to be raised and levied out of my moveable estate; besides sundry goods that have been already Promised to be theirs which I compute will make them Equal with what I have already given to my Daughter Emey; And the remainder part of my moveable estate shall be equally Divided between my three Daughters: Emey, Hannah and Rebecah.

And I do hereby totally Disallow, Revoke and Disavow all and every other former testaments, wills, Legacies and [ ? ] by me in any way before this time [ ? ], willed and bequeathed. Ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament, In witness whereof I have here unto set my hand and seal the day and year above written. WILL OF SIMON HADLEY written in 1755 Know all men by these presents that I, Simon Hadly of Mill Creek Hundred in the County of New Castle on Delaware, yeoman, calling to mind the mortality of my body, do make and ordain this my last will and testament, and as touching such worldly estate where-with it has pleased God to bless me in this life, I do give, devise and dispose of the same in the manner and form following:

First, it is my will that my funeral charge and just debts be first paid.

It is my will and I do leave my beloved wife, PHEBE HADLY ________ pounds current money to be paid her six months after my death, to be paid by my executors, hereinafter mentioned, her chaise and chaise-horse, my riding mare and the two best cows I have, besides what I have left her in my marriage settlement with her, and as much of the furniture of the house as she will think fit to take, to the value of _______ pounds and no more, which shall be in full of my real and personal estate.

Imprimus,--I give, devise and bequeath unto my grandson SIMON HADLEY, son of my son JOSHUA HADLEY, the Messuage plantation and tract of land I now live on, bounded and described as follows Viz. Beginning at a corner post, being a corner of JACOB JOHN's lands thence by his line east 300 perches to a corner white oak in the Manor line, thereon south by the said line 217 perches to a corner hickory, thence west by the land now seated by my grandson JOHN HADLEY, 73 perches to a post, thence north 31 degrees, west 38 perches to a black oak, thence north 50 degrees, west 48 perches and a half to a gum tree, thence north 20 degrees, west 19 perches to a post, thence north 69 degrees, 59 perches to a post in WILLIAM ROWs line, thence north by the same 46 perches to the place of beginning, containing 260 acres be the same more or less, making the bounds aforesaid, with the hereditaments and appurtenances thereunto belonging, to hold to him, my said grandson SIMON HADLEY and the male heirs of his body lawfully begotten forever, but if my said grandson should depart this life without lawful issue, then it is my will and I do give and the devise the same Messuage plantation and tract of land unto my grandson JEREMIAH HADLEY, son of my said son JOSHUA HADLEY, to hold to him and the male heirs of his body lawfully begotten forever, but if he should depart this live without male heirs as above, then and in such case I give and devise and bequeath the said Messuage plantation and tract of land and premises unto the next male heirs as consanguinity to him and the male heirs of his body lawfully begotten forever.

I also give and bequeath unto my said grandson SIMON HADLEY, my clock and walnut clothes press which stands in one of the upper rooms and the sum of ten pounds lawful money, all of which several bequests to be possessed by him when he shall arrive at the respective age of twenty-one years. and it is my will that my executors here-in-after named, rent the above plantations to good tenants until my said grandsons arrive at the age of twenty-one years, that all of my said grandsons shall pay the _______ due on each of their plantations when lawfully ___________.

I do leave my son JOSEPH HADLEY, half of my wearing apparel and ten pounds current money, which shall be his full portion and share of my real and personal estate.

I do leave my daughter, DEBORAH HOWEL, wife of JACOB HOWEL, ten pounds current money and I do leave to the said Jacob Howel, ten pounds current money, which shall be in full their portion and share of my real and personal estate.

I do leave my daughter, HANNAH STANFIELD, widow of JOHN STANFIELD, fifty pounds current money which shall be paid in full of her portion and share of my real and personal estate.

I do leave my daughter, RUTH LINDLEY, wife of THOMAS LINDLEY, ten pounds current money and I do leave to the said THOMAS LINDLEY, ten pounds current money, which shall be in full their portion and share of my real and personal estate.

I do leave my daughter, KATHERINE JOHNSON, wife to ROBERT JOHNSON, ten pounds current money and I do leave to the said ROBERT JOHNSON, the sum of ten pounds current money, which shall be in full their portion and share of my real and personal estate.

I do leave my daughter, ANNE GREGG, widow of RICHARD GREGG departed, the sum of forty pounds current money which shall be paid in full of her portion and share of my real and personal estate. I do leave to my grand-children to wit; SARAH SMITH GREGG, fifty-five pounds current money, and I do leave JACOB GREGG sixty pounds current money, and I do leave RUTH GREGG five pounds current money, and I do leave WILLIAM GREGG sixty pounds current money, and I do leave MIRRIAM GREGG sixty pounds current money, and I do leave DEBORAH GREGG sixty pounds current money and I do leave PHEBE GREGG sixty pounds current money, all of them children of my daughter ANN GREGG, widow and relict of RICHARD GREGG departed. NOTE--JOHN LINDLEY was twice set down in a mistake and when I found the mistake I erased it with my own hand. DEBORAH LINDLEY was born in North Carolina and I did not remember her to get her name down in the proper place, but I do give the said sum set down on the other side.

And it is my will that as many of my said grand-children which are at age at my decease, that my executors shall pay them their legacies left them by me one year after my decease, and all my said grand-children which are not of age, I do order that my said executors to give it into the hands of the parents of the said grand-children, they giving bend and security with interest for the same for the benefit of their children, and my said grand-children, to be paid one year after my decease to said parents, but if they refuse to comply as above, then I do order my said executors to put out the said legacy left by me to my said grand-children into good hands at interest, and pay them as above when they come of age with the interest of said legacy at twenty-one years or day of marriage which shall first happen.

It is my will that if any of my grand-children depart this life before they come to age or before, unmarried, that their legacy left them by me shall be equally divided among their survivors, and it is my will that if any of my grand-daughters or grand-sons wives should have any more children before my decease or be pregnant, that then my said executors shall put to interest for them the sum of fifty pounds current money, and pay them as above said.

I do leave to my nephew THOMAS KIERNAN, the sum of ten pounds current money.

I do leave to my said wife's children to wit; JOHN BUFFINGTON, one pistole, RICHARD BUFFINGTON one pistole, PHEBE WALL one pistole, PETER BUFFINGTON one pistole, ISAAC BUFFINGTON one pistole, JOSEPH BUFFINGTON ten pounds current money to be paid them one year after my decease and what bonds, notes or accounts be payable to me from any of my grand-children or their husbands, must be discounted out of the legacy left them by me, and I here-by constitute make and ordain my trusty and well-beloved grand-son-in-law, JAMES THOMPSON and my trusted and well-beloved grand-son JOHN HADLEY and my worthy and well loved friend, DANIEL NICKOLDS, all of them in Hill Creek Hundred in the County of New Castle on Delaware, yeomen, my executors of this my last will and testament, and I do hereby revoke and make void all former wills made by me at any time here-to-fore, and I do leave my executors thirty pounds current money to each of them, for their care and trouble they will have about the nagging and settling of my said estate, which said sum shall be in full for their care and trouble and shall not have more for their commission, nor any other charge against my said estate on that account, but I do allow my said executors shall have commissions for what just money shall be received by them arising out of the legacies left by me to my said grand-children until they respectively arrive at the age above-said, and I do desire and request my trusty friends BENJAMMIN SWETT of the town of New Castle, Esq. and SAMUEL GREGG of Christiana Hundred and county above said, yeomen, to be overseers, to see that my last and testament be well and truly performed, and for their care and trouble I do leave each of them the sum of five pounds current money, to be paid by the executors, and it is my will that what is left to my said son, JOSEPH HADLEY, should be kept in my said executors hands and give it to him at several times as they see it is necessary for it.

I give devise and bequeath unto my grandson, SIMON JOHNSON, son of ROBERT JOHNSON, certain plantation and tract of land lying contiguous to the above land devised to my grandson SIMON HADLEY, bounded and described as followeth: Viz. Beginning at a corner mulberry tree being a corner of the land late of JOSHUA HADLEY but now of ROBERT JOHNSON, thence west by the same land one hundred and eighty perches to a post thence north by the said Rows land 134 perches to a corner post of the above land devised to my said grandson SIMON HADLEY, thence south 69 degrees, east by the said tract 59 perches to a post and south 20 degrees, east 19 perches to a gum tree and south 60 degrees, east 137 perches and a half to another gum and south 50 degrees, east 48 perches and a half to a corner black oak and south 31 degrees, east 38 perches to a corner post in the line of the land seated by my said grandson JOHN HADLEY, thence west by the same 57 perches to a corner black oak in a line of the aforesaid ROBERT JOHNSON land, thence north by the same 37 perches to the place of beginning, containing by estimation 112 acres be the same more or less with in the bounds aforesaid, with the hereditaments and appurtenances thereunto belonging or in anywise appertaining to the hold to him, my said grandson SIMON JOHNSON, and the male heirs of his body lawfully begotten, but if he my said grandson, SIMON JOHNSON should happen to depart this life without male heirs as above, then and in such case I give devise and bequeath the said tract of land and premises unto the next male heirs by consanguinity to him, my said grandson, and the male heirs of his body lawfully begotten forever, to be possessed by my said grandson when he shall arrive at the respective age of twenty-one years.

I do give and bequeath to my grandson, JOHN HADLEY, son of my son JOSEPH HADLEY, and the male heirs of his body lawfully begotten forever, a plantation or tract of land here-in-after mentioned, but if he should depart this life without male heirs, then in such case, it is my will and I do give and bequeath the said plantation and tract of land to the next male heir by blood to him and his heirs forever, said plantation and tract of land to be bounded as followeth; Beginning at a corner black oak in the line of the said ROBERT JOHNSONs land, thence east 130 perches to a corner hickory tree in the said Manor line, thence by the said line south 185 perches to a corner oak sapling _______ containing within the said bounds 150 acres of land, be the same more or less, and I do bequeath to my said grandson JOHN HADLEY, ten pounds current money.

I do give and bequeath a plantation or tract of land to ______ JOHNSON in the Letitia Aubrey Manor containing 93 acres and 66 perches of land. I have a deed for the same and recorded in the name of my grandson SIMON GREGG, son of RICHARD GREGG, departed, and ANNE his wife, my daughter, to him and the male heirs of his body lawfully begotten as above, but should he depart this life, it is my will and I do give the said plantation and tract of land to the next male heirs by blood to him and the male heirs of his body legally begotten forever. In witness whereof I have here-unto set my hand and my seal this 3rd day of November, one thousand seven hundred and fifty five (1755). Note before signing and sealing-- It is my will that if any of my grand-children should fall heir to any of the above said tracts of land by the death of him or them which I have willed it to, then it is my will that he or they which shall fall heir to said estate or estates, shall not have the said fifty pounds willed to them by me as above, but shall be equally divided as above to the surviving grand-children.

Franklin A. Klair, Age 75, of Leesburg, FL, formerly of Hockessin, DE, died Thursday, May 24, 2007 in Leesburg Medical Center.

Mr. Klair was a 1949 graduate of Henry C. Conrad High School. He retired in 1976 as a Lieutenant of the Delaware State Police. He also served in the Army Reserves. He was a member of the Retired Troopers Association and was a member of the Armstrong Masonic Lodge #26 in Newport. He was lifelong member of Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Mary Klair; sons, Duane F. Klair of Wilmington, DE, Donald D. Klair and his wife, Judith R. of St. Charles, IL; his daughter, Patti L. Ferrell and her husband, Timothy A. of Townsend, DE; his sister, Charlotte Dudkewitz of Elkton, MD; and 5 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 am, at Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church, 500 McKennans Church Road, Wilmington, DE, 19808. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Thursday, from 10-11 am.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church Building Fund, at the above address.

Marvin Woodward Klair, Age 94, of Wilmington, DE, died on Wednesday, February 14, 2007, in Manor Care Pike Creek.

Mr. Klair purchased 86 acres of land on Limestone Road in 1935 and began a dairy farm that he owned and operated until 1958. He was a member and club leader of the 4-H Club for 25 years. He was a restorer of antique cars and a 50 year Charter member of the Brandywine Antique car club, also a 50 year member of the Antique Car Club of America, and he sponsored Klair's Gas Engine Show. He was an original 50 year member of Limestone Presbyterian Church and a member of the Harmony Grange for 70 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Olive Winifred Klair; his parents, Adaline and Irvin G. Klair; and his brother, Ralph Klair. He is survived by his son, Irvin G. Klair, II, of Wilmington, DE; his grandson, Bryan Klair, of Wilmington, DE; his great-grandsons, Ryan Klair and Nathan Klair, of Wilmington, DE.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Service at Limestone Presbyterian Church, 3201 Limstone Rd., Pike Creek, on Tuesday evening, February 27, at 7 pm, where friends may call after 6 pm. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to your favorite charity.

The will of John Vandever, written February 6, 1810. John and his wife, Persina (or Parthena) nee Beeson had seven children, of which only five are mentioned in his will. Mising from the will are his son John Beason Vandever, born in 1788, and his daughter Mary Vandever, born November 5, 1790

In the name of God Amen I John Vandever of Brandywine hundred in the County of New Castle and State of Delaware being weak of body but of sound disposing mind and memory, blessed be the Lord for his mercies, and calling to mind the uncertainties of this life do make publish pronouce and declare this to be my last will and testament in manner and form following that is to say.

Imprimis
I order and direct that all my just debts and funeral expenses be paid and dischared by by Executor hereafter named as soon as he conveniently can after my decease -

Item
I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Perthena Vandever the brick building where my son Thomas Vandever now resides with the garden adjoining thereto together with the road as now used out to Marsh road for and during her natural life. I also give to my said wife one horse and cow as such as she may select out of my stock also a saddle and bridle together with the riding chair and Harness belonging thereto, with a sufficiency of fruit out of the orchards for her use two beds and beds steads and the necessary furniture belonging thereto, one case of drawers, two tables, half a dozen chairs two looking glasses such as she may choose the whole of the plate that is about the house with a reasonable proportion of bed clothes and table linen also my silver watch, it is further my will that she have such other articles out of my household furniture as she may chose to be delivered her at the appraised value thereof provided the same to not excede the sum of forty dollars, I also direct that my son Thomas provide goods and sufficient pasture and hay for a horse and cow or two creatures and that my son Thomas and Peter Vandever furnish my said wife with six cords of wood yearly and every year for and during her life to be delivered to her when she may require the same on half of said wood to be furnished by my son Thomas and the other half by my son Peter I also give to my said wife the sum of Eighty dollars per year for and during her natural life to be paid her by my said son Thomas by equal half yearly installments out of the hands which I hereafter devise to him also my black woman named Hannah for and during the term and period of sixteen years at the expiration of which time she is to be imancipated and set free.

I give and devise to my son Thomas Vandever all that part of the farm whereon I now reside which is contained within the bounds hereafter mentioned viz Begining at the west corner between Benjamin Elliott Lot and my lands then running the course of the present fence to the Brandywine creek at the head of the bank from thence down the Brandywine to the mouth of Skill pot Creek and from thence up the said skill pot to the dam at the marsh road, and from thence up and along said road to the gate a corner of Peter Vandever lot, be the contents within said boundaries more or less to him my said son Thomas his heirs and assigns forever, subjct nevertheless to the payment of the annuitites of Eighty dollars a year to my wife and the sum of One hundred dollars a year to my daughter Rebecca, also the pasture and hay for a horse and cow bequethed to my said wife.

Item I give and devise to my son Peter Vandever the field on the southwest side of the marsh road between the land devised to my son Thomas and the Land belonging to Thomas Lea together with all the rest of the land and marsh which does or of right outght to belong to me, except the piece of timber do him my said Son Peter/his heirs and assigns subject never the less to the payment of land hereafter disposed of the two legacies herafter bequeathed to my wife two daughters Elizabeth McKee and Anna Brita Gregg-

Item
I give and devise to my sons Thomas Vandever & Peter Vandever my lot of wood land adjoining the lands of Peter Vandever Isaac Jones and bordering on the Brandywine computed at about fifteen acres more or less to them their hers and assigns forever, and in order that perfect harmony may be preserved between my said sons, it is my will and I do hereby direct that each of them, or in any ase the two men so chosen cannot agree that they (the men) select a third person and the division thus made to be final and conclusive.

I give and bequeath to my son Thomas the grain sowed in the fields on the south west side of the marsh road which has been heretofore devised to my son Peter free with egress and regress to cut and carry the same off under the proviso however that my son Thomas reliquish all his right to the lot of grain sowed by him to my Son Peter on the north East side of said road.

I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Elizabeth McKee the Sum of five hundred Dollars lawful money of the United States of America to be paid her by my Son Peter in five installments of one hundred Dollars each per Annum without any interest the first payment to be made at the expiration of one year after my decease.

I give and bequeth unto my Daughter Ann Brita Gregg the sum of five hundred Dollars lawful money as aforesaid to be paid her by my Son Peter in the same manner and at the same time as is directed in the case of my daughter Elizabeth the said sum to draw no Interest.

I give and bequeath unto my Daughter Rebecca Vandever the sum of one hundred Dollars per annum for and during her natural life to be paid her quarterly by my Son Thomas Vandever together with one good bed and furniture for the three bed quilts and a quantity of Table linen which she claims as belonging to her one piece of unbleached tow linen also the little Sorrel mare called beauty.

It is my Will that the following named persons be emancipated and freed after they have performed the Period of Servitude severally alloted them viz. My black woman Philis after she has served six years, Hester after the service of Seventeen year, Levina at the end of Nineteen years Charlote at the expiration of Twenty Two years and George at the termination of twenty-five year the several terms of servitude to be computed from the date of this my Will, I do further order that my black woman Jane together with her son Percy in case she chooses to take him be liberated and set free immediately after my decease.

In order to prevent any dispute that might hereafter arise between my said Children it is my Will that they and each of them be release from the payment of all demands that I may have on book or otherwise against them and no Claim whatever. that they or either of them may have against me shall after my decease be brought against my Estate under no less penalty than a forfeiture by the person or persons so exhibiting and prsecuting said Claim of all that I give in this my Will given them.

Lastly All the rest and residue of my Estate whatsoever or wheresoever it be I give unto my Son Thomas Vandever hereby nominating constituting and appointing my said son Thomas Sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament hereby revoking all other Wills by me heretofore made. In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this Sixth day of February in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and ten.

Be it remembered that I Peter Vandever of Brandywine Hundred in the County of Newcastle upon Delaware, being aged and infirm but of sound mind and disposing memory, blessed be the Lord for all his mercies, and calling to mind the uncertainty of this mortal life and being desirous of settling and disposing of all my temporal and wordly Estates whilst time and ability is afford, have therefore, thought proper to make and publish this my last will and Testaent in manner as is hereinafter mentioned

Imprimia It is my mind and will that all my just debts be paid out of my estates and also all my funeral and other expenses with convenient time after my decease by my Executor hereinafter named -

Secondly I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife if she should happen to survive me the one full half part of my stock, all my farming Utensils & negroe man & the reasonable use of my present dwelling house and of all my land and Marsh which I have not conveyed to my son John, and also I give to my said wife all my house & Kitchen furniture she providing for all my unmarried daughters during the time they may remain unmarried-

Thirdly I give and bequeath unto my daughter Elizabeth the sum of Fifty pound current, lawful money of this goverment over and above what I have heretofore given to her and to be paid-out of my estates provided she shall happen tosurvive her present husband be five equal and annual payments of ten pounds per Annum the first payment to be at the expiration of one year after mine & wifes decease provided she shall happen to be widowbefore, if not then within six months after she shall become a widow and if it shall happen that my said Daughter Elizabeth shall depart this life before all or any part of this legacy shall be received then and in such case so much thereof as shall be unpaid shall be equally divded among all her Children-part and share alike and paid in yearly payments as aforesaid -

Fourthly I give and bequeath unto my son in law Samuel Milner and Catherine his wife and to the survivers of them the sum of One hundred pounds such money as aforesaid over and above what, I may have given to them before my decease to be paid out of my Estate in Annual payments of Ten pounds per annum the first payment to commence from my & wifes as aforesaid, if she shall happen to survive me and also he or they paying out of the same all my just Debts funeral and other charges and all the above mentioned legacies in manner and at suchtimes of payment as aforesaid And also sufficiently maintaining and supporting of my said daughter Rachel his sister, out of the same (if she shall happen to survive me) with all suitable necessaries during her natural life and so and in such respectable mannas the minister and Church warden of the Swedish Church in the borough of Wilmington or any two of them for the time being shall approve of or otherwise from time to time pay the deficiency according to their judgement of any two of them and for the full accomplishment of this my last will and testament I do hereby nominate and appoint my said son John whole and sole Executor thereof and I do hereby revoke and make null and void all and every other will or wills heretofore by me made & declare this and none other to be my last will and Testament IN Witness whereof I Peter Vandver the Testator hath hereunto put my hand & Seal and dated the twebty fourth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty three N. B. The above erasements & Interlinations were done before signing & Sealing.

In the Name of God Amen, This first day of March in the year of our Lord God Anno Domini one thousand seven hundred & forty seven Eight, I Phillip Vandivere of Brandywine hundred in the County of New Castle Yeoman being weak in Body but of perfect mind & memory (thanks be to God) do make this my last will andTestament in manner & Form following: that is to say first I bequeath my soul and spirit into the hands of Almighty God that gave it me And I will that my body be decently buried at & discretion of my Executors hereto named -----------------

Item; I will and devise that all my just debts & funeral charges be duly paid by my Execut.

Item; I give & Bequeath unto my Loveing Wife Beata after my Just debts & funeral Charges be first paid one full third part of my personal Estate & one full third of the Income of my Real Estate during her natural life.

Item; I give & devise unto my Sons John & Peter Vandivere all my real Estate whatsoever and wheresoever to be equally divided between them Only it is my will to reserved six acres of Marsh at their decease to their hers & assigns forever provided that if my son John should die without issue, It is mywill that his Widow shall Enjoy all his share of the Lands, as long as she sall remain a Widdow & no longer.

Item; I give & Bequeath unto my Children that shall be alive at my decease all my personall Estate that shall remain after my wifes thirds & just debts be paid only I give Extraordinary to my Daughter Susannah a sorrel Mare and the high Case of Drawers in the front room the remainder to be equally equally divided between them -----

Item; I will that my Son in law Joseph Jackson shall have the above six acres of Marsh during his natural life & at his decease to be divided according to the rest to be paid out as Convenient as can be on the horse pasture Gutt.

Item; I make & Ordain my Sons John & Peter Vandivere to be the Executors of this my last Will & Testament for all which their trouble they shall not charge others any commission for the doing of any thing concerning my Estate for which their trouble I have left them equal shares in my personal Estate, And I do utterly revoke & disanull all former Wills Testaments by me any wise heretofore made or declared, Provided alway And I do will & ordain by these Presents that if any of my Children do make any suite trouble or demand in law of or for any part of my Goods & Chattels or Lands otherwise then according to the true intrest & meaning of this my last will & Testament that then every of then do doing shall clearly loose all such Legacies or other benefit as they or any of them might have thereby & that all my said children to any of them made which shall commence suit trouble or demand as aforesaide shall be as clearly void as if the same had never been to him given or made And further if any dispute should arise between my two Sons about the division of my lands that they shall choose each of them a man, & them two to choose a thrid And any tow of them agreeing shall be the division between them, IN WITNESS where of I the said Phillip Vandivere have subscribed this my last will & Testament with my one hand and thereunto put my Seal given the day and year above written.

In the name of God Amen I Hannah Wells of Mill Creek Hundred Newcastle County in the state of Delaware being weak in body, but of sound and reasonable mind and memory Do this twelfth day of May in the year of our LORD one thousand and eight hundred and one make and Publish this my last will in manner following:

First, I give and bequeath to my Daughter Margaret Wells my case of Drawers, a Fether Bed and bedding to be of any one of mine she chooses, Twenty pounds in Money and my walnut Rocking cradle.

Also I give and bequeath to my Daughter Elizabeth Mendenhall a Fether Bed with Bolster and two Pillows, but no other furniture to F. Bed with my my Walnut Dining table and Five Pounds in Money.

Also I give and bequeath to my son Seth Wells any one he may choose of my horse creatures, with his saddle and bridle which he now commonly uses or rides with a Fether Bed and bedding with all my Framing utensils on the Place the or my Old Horse called Britton, and Fifty Pounds in Money.

Also I give and bequeath to my son George Wells any one of my two youngest Mare colts he chooses and Twelve Pounds in Money.

Also I give and bequeath to my Daughter Mary Wells my Mahogany Dining table with half a Dozen of my Walnut chairs, a Fether Bed and bedding and my side saddle.

Also I give and bequeath to my son Harrison Wells my Clock, yet to be left with my son Seth until the said Harrison arrives to twenty one years of age or Twelve Pounds in Money which he may choose when of age and if he chooses the said Twelve Pounds when of age then I order my said son Seth to pay him the said Twelve Pounds and keep the clock.

Also I give and bequeath to my Daughter Hannah Wells my Mahogany Tea table, six silver Teaspoons, my Silver cream jug and my largest looking glass.

And I do hereby Will and order that the Five Pounds I have herein before left to my Daughter Elizabeth shall be paid her in six months after my decease by my Executors, and the three Pounds I have herein before left to my son William, and the Twelve Pounds I have left to my son George to be paid them when they arrive to the age of twenty one years by my Exers and as to all the rest or remainder of my Estate that do remain after the afsd.

Bequests, my just Debts, etc. I will and order the same to be divided amongst all my Children Share and Share alike. And lastly I do hereby nominate and appoint my afsd. Daughter Margaret Wells and my afsd. son Seth Wells Executors of this my last Will.

In Witness whereof I have hereto set my Hand, Seal the Day and year first herein before written. Signed, sealed and acknowledged by the above named Hannah Wells for her last Will in Presence of us. [signed] Richard Mahon. Joseph Ball. Hannah Wells....

Be it remembered that on the twenty sixth day of May AD 1801 the last Will and Testament of Hannah Wells late of Newcastle County deceased was in due form of law proved approved and insinuated and Letters Testamentary thereon were granted unto Margaret Wells and Seth Wells Executrix and Executor in the same Will named They being solemnly sworn well and truly to execute the said Will, and to exhibit an Inventory into the Register's Office at Newcastle on or before the twenty sixth day of August next, and to render a Just and true account of their administration on or before the twenty sixth day of May AD 1802 or when thereunto lawfully required. Given under the Seal of said Office Bond in 1200 Dollars, Thomas Justis surely. [signed] Evan Thomas Regr.
