      <description>Ms. Mildred Zile Abbate, 87, of Carroll Lutheran Village, Westminster, died Saturday, Aug. 22, at the health care center after an extended illness.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Born July 15,1905, in New Windsor, she was a daughter of the late Carroll and Edith Grossnickle Zile. Ms. Abbate also was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Zile, in 1979 and a sister, Evelyn Formwalt in 1981. Ms. Abbate had been employed as a file clerk at Commercial Credit Co., Baltimore, for more than 40 years, retiring in 1971. She moved from Baltimore to Carroll Lutheran Village in 1986.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Surviving are a sister, Helen Bostian, New Windsor; a niece, Connie Heffner of Hampstead; and four nephews, Robert G. Formwalt of Linthicum, James G. Formwaldof Catonsville, Jack M. Formwald of Parkville and William H. Formwald of Malvern, Pa.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m., Monday, Aug. 24, at the New Windsor funeral home of D.D. Hartzler. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 25, at the funeral home with the Rev. Bruce Weaver, Edgewood Church of the Brethren, officiating. Interment will be in Sams Creek Cemetery near New Windsor.</description>

She was the wife of James Millard Albaugh Born April 9, 1920, m Carroll County, she was a daughter of Helena Otto Weller and the late Carroll William Weller.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Mrs Albaugh had been employed at the Brethren Service Center in New Windsor for 22 years, retiring in 1978 Surviving besides her husband and mother are one daughter, Virginia Lee Long, at home, two sons, James Albaugh of near Union Bridge, John Carroll Albaugh of Westminster, one sister, Madeline Bowers of Westminster, three brothers, Canoil Weller and Abram Weller, both of Westminster, Wilbur Weller of New Windsor, seven grandchildren , and five great grandchildren.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The family will receive friends 7 9 p m Wednesday, July 13 at the New Windsor Funeral Home of D D Hartzler Funeral services will be held 10 a m Thursday, July 14, from the New Windsor Funeral Home of D D Hartzler The Rev James Flora, Frederick Church of the Brethren, will officiate Interment will be in Winters Cemetery near New Windsor. </description>

She was born July 20, 1892, in Carroll County, a daughter of the late Millard and Sarah Ann Trout Kump. Her husband, John Wesley Albaugh, predeceased her in 1924.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Kathryn H. Given of Baltimore, and Mrs. Mary A. Testerman, with whom she lived; one son, James M. Albaugh of New Windsor; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Catharine Eiler, of Try, Ohio; Mrs. Maude Taylor of Baltimore; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was a member of the Union Bridge United Methodist Church.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 22, at the Union Bridge funeral home of D. D. Hartzler. Rev. Marlin Lauver, her pastor, will officiate. Interment will be made in Beaver Dam Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening, July 21. </description>

New Windsor, died Saturday, Nov. 25, at the Carroll County General Hospital in Westminster, after an illness of several months.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Born Nov. 21, 1889 in Carroll County, she was a daughter of the late George C. and Martha Ecker Anders. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Miss Anders was employed with the Woman&amp;#39;s Hospital in Baltimore as a telephone operator for 40 years. She retired in 1959.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Miss Anders was a member of the New Windsor Presbyterian Church for 62 years and served on the Women&amp;#39;s Guild of the Church. Surviving is one sister, Mrs. Adella Gilbert of New Windsor. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 27, from the New Windsor Funeral Home of D.D. Hartzler. The Rev. Biddle Foster, her pastor, will officiate. Interment will be in the Presbyterian Cemetery in New Windsor. There will be no visitation at the funeral home. </description>

      <description>Mr. Hallett Pickup Baile, 66, of 2637 Old New Windsor Pike, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, at Carroll County General Hospital, Westminster, after an illness of several months.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Born June 12,1918, in Carroll County, he was a son of the late John S. and Ethel Johnson Baile.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Mr. Baile was a member of St Paul&amp;#39;s United Methodist Church. He served in the Army in World War n. A former member and past president of New Windsor Lions Club, he was. also a charter member and assistant director of the Old Line Statesmen of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of the Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Besides his wife, Ruth Parlett Baile, Mr. Baile is survived by two sons, Hallett P. Baile, at home, and John E. Baile, near Westminster; one grand-daughter, Julie E. Baile; one grandson, Jeffrey P. Baile; one sister, Miss Sarah J. Baile, New Windsor; and one brother, Nathan J. Baile, New Windsor.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at St Paul&amp;#39;s United Methodist Church, New Windsor. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Saturday, at the church. Interment will be in Pike&amp;#39;s Creek Cemetery, at the convenience of the family.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The family requests that contributions in Mr. Baile&amp;#39;s memory be made to the Old lane Statesmen, in care of William Weir, 901 Candy Lane, Westminster, or the Carroll County chapter of the American Cancer Society, Westminster,Md. 21157.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The New Windsor Funeral Home of D.D.       <description>Mr. Herman Calvin Baile, 73, a well-known lifelong farmer of Medford, died Friday, March 13, at Golden Age Nursing Home, Hanover, Pa.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Born Aug. 17,1907, in Frederick County, Mr. Baile was a son of the late Roy and Bessie Nusbaum Baile.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Olive Bitter Baile; two sons, Robert R. Baile, Towson, and Melvin E. Baile Sr., New Windsor; one sister, Mrs. Florence Stultz. Union Bridge; and five grandchildren. Mr. Baile was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Westminster. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 16, at the New Windsor Funeral Home of D.D. Hartzler. Officiating will be the Rev. George L Melhorn, a cousin of Mrs. Baile&amp;#39;s and a retired Lutheran pastor. Interment will be in Keysville Lutheran Cemetery. His wife, Etta Lahner Baile, predeceased him in 1981. Mr. Baile was a member of St. Paul&amp;#39;s United Methodist Church of New Windsor. He served with the U.S. Air Force during World War II, serving with the 29th division. He was a member of the VFW #8806 of Union Bridge and a former volunteer with Meals on Wheels.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Surviving are one daughter, Gertrude M. Barnes of Mount Airy; one granddaughter, Sarah J. Frischrnecht; five grandsons, Tilden Barnes III, Richard L. Barnes, Robert M. Barnes, Paul N. Barnes and Harry H. Barnes; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Sarah J. Baile of New Windsor; and a number of nieces and nephews.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The family will receive friends at the New Windsor Funeral Home of D.D. Hartzler on Wednesday, Nov. 23, from 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 25, at the funeral home with the Rev. Harold Hartley, his pastor, assisted by Bishop Dan Bishop, pastor of the Westminster Ward of Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints. Born June 24, 1905, in Cincinnati, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late John C. and Marguerite Sauter Gauche.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Mrs. Baker was a graduate of Mount St. Joseph College of Cincinnati. She was a member of St. Joseph Church of Taneytown. She was a former president of the Reisterstown Senior Center and enjoyed playing bridge. She was the last of her immediate family.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Surviving are one daughter, Jeannne B. Elliott and husband Donald B. of New Windsor, with whom she resided; one son, Joseph E. Baker and wife Jane F. of Parkville; a daughter-in-law, Dorothy Baker of Towson; seven grandchildren; and four greatgrandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, L. Doris Baker, and a son, William S. Baker.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A funeral Mass will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, April 21, at St. Joseph Church, Taneytown, with Mrs. Baker&amp;#39;s pastor, the Rev. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the New Windsor Volunteer Fire Co., where she served as treasurer for many years.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;She had been employed as a clerk at the New Windsor Hardware Store for 49 years under the following owners. Clarence Ensor, Charles Bachman, Weller Brothers and Fred Burner.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Surviving are one brother, Albert M. Benedict of New Windsor, three nieces and one nephew.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday. July 9, at the New Windsor funeral home of D D. Hartz1er with her pastor, the Rev Charles H. Acker Jr , officiating. Interment will be in Winters Cemetery, New Windsor. Born May 8, 1912, in Frederick County, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Hannah Fogle Keeney.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Mrs. Black was a member of Linganore United Methodist Church, Unionville.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;She and her husband were dairy farmers in the Oak Orchard area, retiring in 1962.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Surviving are one daughter, Marian B. Kennedy of Frederick; two sons, Selby M. Black and wife Sara of Union Bridge, and Michael V. Black of Hagerstown; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two nephews.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;She was preceded in death by a sister, Josephine DeGrange. She also will be remembered by a devoted friend, Elmer Seymour.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, May 5, at the Union Bridge funeral home of D.D. Hartzler. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 6 at Linganore United Methodist Church. Her pastor, the Rev. Dr. Kathryn B. Moore, will officiate. Born Oct. 20, 1905, in Carroll County, he was a son of the late Ernest L. and Ella Barnhart Blacksten.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Mr. Blacksten was a member of Linwood Brethren Church, where he had served as a deacon and a layman. He formerly had been a farmer and was employed with the Maryland State Roads Commission, retiring in 1967.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Surviving besides his wife are two daughters, Olive S. Boone, of Westminster, and Marion B. Devilbiss, of Woodsboro; one son, Wayne E. Blacksten, of New Windsor; two brothers, Roger Blacksten and Ralph T. Blacksten, both of Linwood; one sister, Dorothy I. Myers, of Uniontown; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Blacksten was preceded in death by a brother, R. Russell Blacksten.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The family will receive friends 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, at the New Windsor funeral home of D.D. Hartzler. Hancock of Westminster; a son, Wilbur H. Blacksten and wife Betty of Taylor of Patapsco; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Harold Blacksten, in 1976. &lt;br /&gt;Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20, at Hartzler Funeral Home, New Windsor. Born Sept. 17,1942 in Carroll County, he was a son of Mrs. Eva Garber Blacksten and the late Herman R.Blacksten.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;He was a member of the New Windsor Fire Co., and St. Peter&amp;#39;s Catholic Church of Libertytown. He served with the Md. National Guard and had been a machinist with Black and Decker for the past 12 years.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Surviving besides his mother are his wife, Mrs. Nancy Drabic Blacksten, two children. Jeffrey Scott and Mark Edward Blacksten, both at home, one sister, Mrs, Grace Hancock, Uniontown, one &amp;#39;brother, Wilbur Blacksten, Middleburg.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Friends may call at the New Windsor Funeral Home of D.D. Hartzler on Friday evening. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Peter&amp;#39;s Catholic Church in Libertytown with the Rev. Paul laia as celebrant. Boone of Westminster, and Marion Devilbiss Stenton of Thurmont; one son, Wayne E. Blacksten of New Windsor; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Blacksten was a member of Limvood Brethren Church, the church Sewing Circle, and the Ladies Missionary Society. She was also the pianist for the Sunday school for more than 25 years.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, April 20, at the Union Bridge funeral home of D.D. She attended New Windsor School at Blue Ridge College and graduated from Elmer Wolfe High School in 1932. She was a former mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. She loved sewing, baking, decorating cakes, making quilts, gardening, cooking, and wearing hats.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Beverly A. Maring and husband Clarence, and Linda E. Pollard and husband Donald, all of Union Bridge; a son, Richard L. Blacksten and wife Charlene of Union Bridge; two sisters, Ruby L. Sauble of Frederick and Ruth Ann Hoff of Catonsville; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. Mencken, and an author of several books, died Monday at George Washington University Hospital of emphysema.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Miss Bloom , who lived at 1760 Euclid St., NW, moved from her birthplace, New Windsor, MD, to Washington in about 1910.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;She joined the Army Nursing Corps during World War I and served in France. During the next 20 years, she did research for Mencken, the noted Baltimore author, and contributed articles to the American Mercury, which he edited. She also contributed to the old Washington Herald.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Miss Bloom worked for the American Red Cross as assistant chief of the Resources Information unit, Service to the Armed Forces, from 1944 until 1947. She later worked with the Junior Red Cross before moving to the State Department in 1950. She retired in 1960. </description>

      <description>Lyle Dehone Cater, 87, of New Windsor died Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007, at Carroll Hospital Center of complications from a hip fracture.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Born Dec. 25, 1919, in New Brighton, Pa., he was the son of the late Louis and Myrtle Wurzel Cater. He was the husband of Jane Englar Cater, with whom he would have celebrated 51 years of marriage Oct. 21.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;He served in the Army in the 302nd Infantry Reg. 94th Division, and later 16th Infantry Reg. 1st Division in the Battle of the Bulge, Rhineland and central European campaigns.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Following the war, he participated in numerous Army bands from his different posts, serving as assistant band director. He retired as a master sergeant in 1967 after 23 years of service, having received the Combat Infantry Badge, EAME Ribbon, World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Army Occupation Medal and Bronze Service Star.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Following his military service, he was employed with the New Windsor Post Office, retiring in 1985. He also operated a shoe repair business, New Windsor Shoe Shop, adjacent to his home.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;He was a member of St. Paul&amp;#39;s United Methodist Church in New Windsor and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8806 in Union Bridge. He enjoyed woodworking, repairing lawn mowers, bowling and gardening.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Surviving, in addition to his wife, are daughter and son-in-law Cheryl and Thom Frock of Keymar; son and daughter-in-law Lawrence and Jacqueline Cater of Reisterstown; grandchildren Evan and Connor Frock of Keymar, Ayrika and Eric Martin of Keymar, Scott Cater of Reisterstown, and Denean and Carl Eutsler of Florida; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Cater of Beaver Falls, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;He was predeceased by a brother, Wilbur Cater, who died in 2003.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 310 Church St., New Windsor, with his pastor, the Rev. Marie Wachter Devilbiss.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Born Sept. 13, 1895, in Frederick County, he was a son of the late Reuben and Susie Birely Devilbiss. Mr. Devilbiss was a well-known businessman of Union Bridge, operating a garage and machine works for 59 years prior to his retirement in 1978. He also owned and operated a grist roller mill at Carrollton. Mr. Devilbiss was active in Frederick and Carroll counties with his 1917 Stanley Steamer, which he purchased in 1920. He was a veteran of World War I, serving in the U.S. Army with the 4th Pioneer Infantry Truck Company, seeing action in France. He was active in the Uniontown United Methodist Church, a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1381 of Westminster and a member of the Macedonian Fellowship of Carroll Lutheran Village.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Surviving besides his wife are one sister, Grace Smelser of Uniontown; and a number of nieces and nephews.       <description>   	  Woman killed in tractor accident&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;A Sundays Lane resident was killed Sunday morning after the tractor she was riding on overturned, according to Frederick County sheriff&amp;#39;s deputies.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Carol Lynn Devilbiss, 52, of 7730B Sundays Lane, was killed at about 11:20 a.m when the John Deere tractor her husband, Joseph Devilbiss, was driving went down a steep grade and began to slide under the weight of the manure spreader it was pulling, deputies said.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;When the tractor reached the bottom of the hill, it jackknifed and overturned on its side, pinning Mrs Devilbiss but throwing Mr Devilbiss clear of the accident, deputies said.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Mr Devilbiss returned to his house and called 911, deputies said, and was later taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital, suffering from chest pains and trouble breathing. Mr. Devilbiss was later treated and released, according to an FMH spokesman.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Mrs Devilbiss was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, deputies said. </description>

      <description>Dr. D. Wilbur Devilbiss of Frederick, one of Maryland&amp;#39;s leading educators and administrators, died Friday, March 8, at Homewood Retirement Center, Frederick. He was 92.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;He was the husband of Bernice Barbara Ryan &quot;Bee&quot; Devilbiss, whom he married Aug. 29, 1927, in Ellicott City.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Born Jan. 15, 1904, in Johnsville, he was a son of the late David McClellan and Ida Belle Etzler Devilbiss. He was the last of his immediate family. Dr. Devilbiss received his early school in a two-room schoolhouse in Johnsville. He then had to travel by horse and buggy to Libertytown for his high school education. Liberty High School in those days only offered a three-year course. Knowing that he had to have a four year high school diploma to go on to college meant he had to go into Frederick to Boys High School. He graduated from Boys High School in 1921, and matriculated at Western Maryland College, Westminster, where he earned his bachelor of arts degree in 1925. Upon graduating from Western Maryland, he was appointed to the position of second teacher in the two-teacher Mardela Springs High School in Wicomico County in 1925. In 1926, he was hired to teach science at Middletown High School, where he remained until 1931. He was then transferred to Frederick High School, where he taught physics.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In 1932, Dr. Devilbiss was appointed principal of Brunswick High School, a position he held for seven years. He then received his masters degree from the University of Maryland at College Park in 1935. He later served as principal of Frederick High School from 1939 to 1942. At the same time he began his studies toward a doctor of education degree at George Washington University. During part of this study he was called upon to teach at GW University, the only place outside of the state of Maryland he had ever taught.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;He received is doctor of education degree from George Washington University in 1946. Dr. Devilbiss was appointed to serve as the state supervisor of high schools in 1942. He held this position until 1949 when he was promoted to state supervisor of Teacher and Higher Education. He served in this position until 1952. From 1952 until 1955, Dr. Devilbiss served the University of Maryland at College Park as dean of the College of Education. From there he moved on to a 13-year tenure as president of Salisbury State College, from where he retired July 1,1968.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Dr. Devilbiss received a honorary doctor of pedagogy from Western Maryland College in 1956, and an honorary doctor of laws degree from Salisbury State College in 1975. He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church of Frederick; Phi Delta Kappa, Honorary Education Fraternity; National Association of Secondary School Principals; Maryland Retired Teachers Association; Frederick County Retired Teachers Association; Historical Society of Frederick County; Plymouth Lodge, A.F.&amp;amp; A Masons 143, Union Bridge; Enoch Royal Arch Chapter 23, Frederick; Loyalty Chapter 52 Order of the Eastern Star, Middletown; Sergeant Lawrence Everhart Chapter, Maryland Society of Sons of the American Revolution; and was listed in Who&amp;#39;s Who in America, 1956-1957, Volume 29.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Dr. Devilbiss was active in the Rotary Club. He first joined Rotary and 1932 and served as president of the Rotary Club of Brunswick, and later the Rotary Club of Salisbury. He was a member of the Rotary Club of Frederick at the time of his death. He served as district governor of District 762, Rotary International 1970-1971.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;He was a Paul Harris Fellow and a member of the Rotasages, a unique group within the Rotary Club of Frederick for the senior members. In April 1968, he received the annual civic award of the Salisbury Chamber of Commerce in recognition of his many contributions to that community.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Surviving in addition to his wife are two nieces, Betty Sayler of Union Bridge and Edna Venzie of Blue Bell, Pa.; and two nephews, John D. Spurrier of Quincy, HI., and Paul I. Devilbiss of Walkersville.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;There will be no visitation. Memorial services will begin at 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, at Calvary United Methodist Church, 133 W. Second St., Frederick. The Rev. Robert E. Manthey, Dr. Devilbiss&amp;#39;s pastor, and the Rev. She served as a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army Medical Corps as a registered nurse during World War II in Europe and Africa.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;She had been a co-owner, with her husband, of the Devilbiss Turkey Farm. She was employed as a nurse at the Springfield Hospital Center from 1964 to 1970. She was then a vice president and secretary of Devilbiss Construction Co.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Surviving are one daughter, Carol C. Devilbiss of the Union Bridge area; one son, L. He worked for several years at the Medford Grocery Co. prior to the purchase of The Cold Spring Store, which he owned and operated for 40 years, until his retirement in 1990 He was a longtime member of the New Windsor Volunteer Fire Co.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Surviving are one daughter, Regina Bowersox of Williamsport; one son, William A. Devilbiss of near New Windsor; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by one son, Frank E. Devilbiss in 1991. Born January 9,1925 on the family farm, he was the son of the late Charles W. and Mary Baumgardner Devilbiss. He was the husband of Bettie Perry Devilbiss, his wife of 57 years.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Mr. Devilbiss was a 1941 graduate of Taneytown High School. His father had died when he was 13 years old and following graduation he began 66 years of working on the family farm, &quot;Farm at the Pines,&quot; first as a dairy farmer and later raising beef cattle with his son. He was an active, lifelong member of Keysville Evangelical Lutheran Church where he formerly served as Sunday school superintendent, treasurer of the Building Fund and was a member of the choir. Mr. Devilbiss was superintendent and treasurer of Union Cemetery for 32 years. He was active with the Taneytown Heritage Committee, enjoying local history and genealogy.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In addition to his wife he is survived by a son, Jerry A. Devilbiss and wife Susan of Taneytown; grandson, Mark A. Devilbiss of Taneytown; and granddaughter, Julie R. Albert and husband Edward of Littlestown, Pa. He was predeceased by a sister, Sylvia Devilbiss, and a brother Roger W. He was a member of St. Paul&amp;#39;s Lutheran Church, Uniontown, where he formerly served on the church council and the oemetery board. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps just after World War II. He was a well-known businessman as owner-operator, with his sister Caroline, of T.L. Devilbiss general store and post office in Uniontown. Mr. Devilbiss was a Carroll County school bus contractor and driver for 45 years, driving many years for the Uniontown and New Windsor schools and more recently for Northwest Middle School and Frances Scott Key High School. He had been honored in March 1998 by the Carroll County Bus Contractors with an achievement award for his years of service following his retirement in 1997.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;He was a member of Hesson-Snider American Legion Post, Taneytown.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Surviving in addition to his wife are one son, Robert S. Devilbiss of Uniontown; two sisters, Caroline Devilbiss and Janet Justice, both of Uniontown; one sister-in-law, Kathleen Devilbiss of Uniontown: and many nieces and nephews. Devilbiss of Thurmont, Marjorie Ogle and husband Terry of Thurmont, and Beverly Bosic of Frederick; eight grandchildren, Tammy Keller, Bryan Devilbiss, Troy Twenty, Shannon Twenty, Elaine Ogle, Chad Ogle, Jean Marie Stull and Kelli Bpsic; four greatgrandchildren, Caitlin Keller, Wesley Van Fleet, Tyler Browne and Mackenzie Creighton; two sisters, Regina Harley of Woodsboro, and Agnes Heims and husband Charles of Thurmont; and one stepsister, Marie Stimmel of Taneytown. Mr. Devilbiss was preceded in death by one brother, Ray Devilbiss; and one sister, Ruth Sherry.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Jan. 31, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 104 E. Main St., Thurmont.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, at Harriet Chapel Episcopal Church, 12625 Catoctin Furnace Road, Thurmont, with Mr. Devilbiss&amp;#39; pastor, the Rev. Dr. Francene V Stanford, officiating. Interment will be in Blue Ridge Cemetery, Thurmont.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Harriet Chapel Episcopal Church, 12625 Catoctin Furnace Road, Thurmont, Md. 21788. </description>
