Finding Family Data

With the holiday season now behind us, there may actually be some time now to start new genealogy projects - one of mine is to add a lot of new records to this site. I have several old histories relating to Bucks County, so those will be the first area to work on. In some cases, those old histores are out of date, but they still provide lots of great background information and give us a place to start our research.

Merry Christmas!

May all of us find happiness this holiday season!

Where Do You Find Data?

Though there is lots of information available that is interesting to genealogists working on Bucks County records, in many cases, it takes a fair amount of sleuthing to find it. While some folks have the patience to dig through dusty old books to find that data, many of us, myself included, would much prefer to be able to access it much easier. Part of the plan for this site is to get a lot of that old data into a web-friendly format here, so I’ll be digging through my collection and doing a lot of typing.

Old county histories, church histories, old family genealogies and even old yearbooks can provide valuable data bits for our research. Old newspaper clippings can give a great insight into the history of an area and its people and allow us to see a slice of life from another era.  if you look around your house, you may that you have some unexpected treasures as well - among the many piles of paper that I inherited from an aunt included the research her father had done years ago on some of our family lines. Who’s your family history buff? Chances are they have a stash of old notes on your family tucked away.

With the holidays upon us, this could be a great time to get together with family members and find out who knows the history of your family. I found it very helpful to take a print out of some of my research along to family gatherings to help prompt memories. Older family members can be a great resource when it comes to filling in gaps in the family history!

What We’re Doing and Why

No doubt there are some folks who might wonder why I seem to be re-inventing the wheel by building a project site for Bucks County genealogy when there is already a site for the county under the US GenWeb Project. The answer is actually pretty simple. I think researchers for this area deserve more than is currently available and I think that it is possible to do better than is being done by that project. As one of the three original counties in Pensylvania, Bucks County has an enormous amount of history, but very little of it seems to be available online. I’d like to change that, with your help.

Registered users of this site can easily add to the data available here in our Data section, as well as posting in our Forum and adding to our Virtual Graveyard. Registration is free and only takes a moment. All of us benefit from having more data available online.

There will lots added to this site as time goes on and I hope you will come back often to see what’s new here!
